Amboyna Burl
Latin: Pterocarpus spp. Origin: Southeast Asia
Burls are the wart on the side of a tree and Amboyna Burl is one of the most prized for its deep red color and heavy bird's eye or bubbly grain pattern. It comes from either the Narra tree or the Burma Paduak tree which are both of the Ptreocarpus genus and grow in Southeast Asia. It is the most expensive and sought-after of all the burl species and is used for highly decorative turnings, guitars, knife/gun grips and inlays.
