Argentine Lignum Vitae
Latin: Bulnesia spp. Origin: South America, Southern parts of Bolivia through Argentina
Lignum vitae is one of the heaviest and hardest woods in the world. Many people have heard of Genuine Lignum vitae (Guaiacum officinale) but this Argentine Lignum vitae (Bulnesia sarmientoi) is an excellent alternative, especially for wood turning. The unique feather grain pattern and frangrant herbal smell are as unique as the fact that when exposed to direct sunlight Argentine Lignum vitae will turn from pale yellow to a beautiful olive to emerald green. This species is currently listed on the CITES Appendix II list of endagered species and is restricted to import without special permits.
