Mopani
Latin: Colophospermum mopane Origin: Southern Africa
Mopani is one of the common species used for woodwind instruments due to its excellent accoustic qualities. It is a very dense wood and not easy to work with but turns and finishes with a high sheen. The rich reddish brown coloring is streaked with darker lines and the pale yellow sap wood is a nice contrast. It is commonly used for inlays and turning projects.
