Bolivian Rosewood (Pau Ferro)
Latin: Machaerium spp. Origin: Tropical South America
Bolivian Rosewood is not a true Rosewood (Dalbergia spp.) and is often called Pau Ferro or Morado. It is a good alternative to Rosewoods, particularly to endanged Brazilian Rosewood. Each piece is unique as the color can range from dark burgandy to deep purple to rich brown and the yellow sap provides a nice contract. It is commonly used in musical instruments, wood turning and other specialty products and furniture.
