Sapele

Latin: Entandrophragma cylindricum Origin: Tropical Africa

Sapele is a commonly exported commercial species of wood found in tropical West Africa. Because of its moderate price it is a popular substitute for Honduran Mahogany. It is most commonly sold in lumber and veneer but we do also have Sapele in turning stock and thin dimensional lumber. Sapele is also a very large tree so wide slabs are easy to find for conference and large dining tables.

Quartersawn boards have an iridescent ribbon effect which is quite beautiful when finished. Sapele can range from golden brown to darker reddish brown and will darken slightly with age.
