Jobillo / Goncalo Alves / Tigerwood

Latin: Astronium spp. Origin: Southern Mexico through Brazil

Jobillo goes by many names, many people also call it Goncalo Alves and less commonly it is referred to as Tigerwood. We typically call it Jobillo but we also have some products, like lumber listed under Goncalo Alves. Items under both species will be listed here.

This unusual species has a dark orangish-red cast to the heartwood and it streaked with dark brown to black "tiger stripes". It does tend to darken with age. We have many slabs that are crotch pieces, on one end they will have a flame pattern (See photos below).
