Ipe

Latin: Handroanthus spp. Origin: Central and South America

Ipe is one of the most commercially marketed woods in the world, particularly for outdoor decking. It is extremely dense and durable for outdoor use. If finished with a clear coat it tends to look reddish brown but some pieces may be lighter and have an olive tone. It can also be left unfinished in outdoor use and will turn a natural grey.

It grows through Central America and into South America and is a moderately priced tropical exotic species.
