Monkeypod (Acacia)
Latin: Albizia saman Origin: Central and South America
Monkeypod has quickly become one of the best selling species for live edge slabs. It is also referred to as Acacia or Raintree. It grows all over the world from Southeast Asia and Hawaii to Central and South America. Being a tropical species it tends to grow very large and yields large slabs. It can also be used for outdoor furniture as it is very rot resistant.
The color can be variable from lighter golden to medium brown and many pieces have wild swirls in the grain which add a lot of character to each piece. It is easy to work and is commonly used for cabinetry, furniture and also musical instruments and turned items.
